As the user interface (UI) subject matter expert (SME) on our first project, you’ll develop project level best practices for UI implementation across multiple platforms while working closely with the team on UI implementation for a variety of game features. You’ll help the art, design, and engineering teams understand what’s possible in the UI domain under resource and technical constraints, and provide guidance around how to achieve performance, aesthetic, and functional requirements. When not focused on UI specific implementation you’ll use your Unreal Engine skills and C++ knowledge to support various gameplay and systems engineering efforts. You’ll be in a prime position to contribute creatively as a member of a small team iterating rapidly. Longer term, you’ll also help the team establish technical standards and direction as well as more general feature and system performance, stability, and maintainability.
Responsibilities
- Implement the UI for a wide variety of game features
- Develop project level UI implementation best practices
- Provide accountability around the use of UI implementation best practices
- Ensure UI implementations achieve performance, aesthetic, and functional requirements
- Contribute to technical direction and quality standards across the codebase
- Support non-engineering disciplines in understanding what’s possible and the cost/benefit associated with various technical solutions
- Regularly provide collaborative feedback focused on achieving a top-quality player experience
- Provide gameplay and systems engineering support when not focused on backend related feature or systems development
Qualifications
- Advanced C++ skills
- 6+ years of engineering experience in the game development industry
- 3+ years of engineering experience working with game UI technology
- Strong knowledge of common game development architectural patterns
- Comfortable working in large code bases
- Strong debugging skills
- Experience collaborating cross discipline on gameplay features and systems
- A desire to create great player experiences
- An understanding that we can only succeed as a cohesive team and supporting each other is fundamental to that success.
- Experience using Unreal Engine, especially on multiplayer projects
- A deep understanding of Unreal Motion Graphics (UMG)
- Full cycle game development experience (prototype, pre-production, production, release)
- Experience working on teams that use the Agile development methodology
