Job Description

We are assembling a dream team of exceptional developers with a shared vision for a powerful new game built around the pillars of hope, humor, and human empowerment. We aim to create an industry phenomenon by leveraging our team's proven track record for building narrative-driven sandbox games that create strong emotional engagement through empathy, positivity, and community participation on a global scale.  Reaching that potential requires building a singular studio of unique personalities and experiences to create a one-of-a-kind work culture. We love quirks, we embrace oddities, and we trust that our world is extraordinary when it's a little off-beat and a lot unusual. We know the people we are looking for rarely exist in the same place, which is why we are a fully distributed team allowing everyone to work from their home base of choice.

As a principal system designer, you will come in at the ground floor to establish how we build and author progression systems in our project. You’ll be joining a small team of highly experienced designers to work collaboratively across a wide range of core design loops while taking a leadership role around systems specifically.

This role will take the lead of feature teams intended to establish both how we build progression systems and the tools used to maintain them. If you are excited about the ways that multi-faceted progression systems can link with gameplay, level, encounter and narrative design in order to build engaging and human stories then this role could be a particularly excellent fit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross disciplinary feature teams responsible for building progression and reward systems
  • Collaborate with director, engineers, fellow designers, and UX/UI to take systems from inception to ship
  • Write and maintain documentation related to your designs over the lifetime of the project
  • Collaborate with art and narrative to carry through tone and feel of original IP in all progression systems and rewards
  • Design, implement, and balance rewards and player progression systems
  • Listen to critical feedback and provide thoughtful commentary on solutions to design problems
  • Work with design leadership to shape, align, and champion a shared vision

Core Traits

  • 5+ years of experience in progression and rewards design
  • Deep understanding of open world and sandbox genre trends
  • Self-driven and pro-active about pushing on progress and quality
  • Shipped at least one open world or sandbox title as a systems or progression designer
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Close vision to monitors and screens, consistently working on computer equipment such as keyboards and monitors, long periods of sitting.
  • Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
